Hey, I havent posted in a while as it is rare i get a pc problem and cant fix it. I didnt know which topic to really post this under as im not sure wats causing it.

Well basically i load up my pc, everythings fine. I put some music on, load up a game, have aol n msn running. Thing smy pc can easily handle (spec in signature) and im playing the game and suddenly it freezes (seems to be when I finally build up an army on Age of Empires 3) I cant do anything, not ctrl alt n del. I cant do anything as the screen is frozen. The sound coming out of my pc is a whirring sound, presuming its the sound frozen too. The pc doesnt seem hot or to be over heating, there sno viruses or spyware. Ive used tune up ultilities to fix my errors and registry and it still does it. Ive even tried playing age of empires with nothing else running and it still does it. Ive played other games such as Guild Wars and Call of Duty 2.

So i hope u guys can help me, Thanks. Scott Mansfield

I know its not overheating BUT just try underclocking it a bit and try the system again.

Wat if it is overheating? cud that be it? cud i have missed it?

That sounds like a hardware problem, either PSU, CPU or bad memory...first check to see if your CPU is getting to hot, then take out one memory stick at a time and see if it still happens, then look into PSU problem!

Another thing too is check and make sure your fan on the CPU is working, maybe that noise you are hearing is your fan trying to kick on when your CPU gets hot! Maybe something like bad bearing or something in fan, I dont think fans have bearings but you get the picture!

umm..i had that trouble before, have you installed any new hardwares lately? My problem was caused by a bad stick of ram. Maybe try running a ram test.

Ok I havent bought ne new hardware and the sound cant be the fan coz when i turn my sound off the whirring stops. Im gona ahve a look in pc tomoz. Any ideas for checking cpu, memory and psu? anything in bios or any software?

What i'm thinking of is that maybe there is a bad connection somewhere this could be anywhere
RAM, CPU, PSU, HDD even the CMOS.
Your best bet is to try everything that the others have mentioned, then try and see if any connections are loose.

Ive done tests n nothing appears to be working, cud it have nething to do with the fac ti only have 3.4 Gb of space left on HD?That wudnt cause it to freeze.....wud it?

*** Just to let you know it turned out the cause of my freezing during games was a faulty Graphics driver update. I have now uninstalled that and reinstalled another and its working fine - Thanks for all those who surgested ideas and helped***

I know its not overheating
You do?

Wat if it is overheating? cud that be it? cud i have missed it?
That would be a symptom of something overheating yes but not neccesarily the real problem

Ive done tests n nothing appears to be working
What tests?

I knew it wasnt over heating coz i checked wat the temp was whilst running lots of applications n it was normal and found no signs of melting/buring/overheating inside the pc.

I ran a stress test and also a cpu test.

The driver was just the graphics driver from ati's website.
