PC restarts with no reason

Sometimes the PC just restarts itself, sometimes just shuts down with no blue screen or any kind of error. I have tried to clean the computer with high air pressure, unplugged and plugged back the memory cards and other cards nothing helped. Now it looks like it restarts when I am trying to open the C: drive...

looks like your hdd is causing something to go wrong. run CHKDSK and scan for bad sectors and errors. also run disk cleanup to compress old files and delete stuff you dont need. defrag your C: disk as well.

It could be your graphics card as well.

Does your pc have integrated video or a discreet video card?

If you're using a discreet card, and your board has onboard,
try removing the graphics card and running off the onboard
for a bit.

Look at your Event Viewer log. To open Event Viewer, click on the Vista Start button, then in the 'Start Search' box type the letters: "event". Observe how the larger dialog box displays: 'Programs' and underneath: 'Event Viewer'. Open the Event Viewer.

What error codes are you finding right before crashes? Look for the red exclamation points in your Event Viewer right before crashes.

oh my laptop is doing this aswell...

cant take out the Video card, but its a dedicated one

running CHKDSK now and ive defragmented and such aswell

yes i have, and ive ran CHKDSK, ill see if that does anything. another thing that happens is when i start it up it gives me two options for OS. Windows XP Home Edition and then Window XP Setup. its default to windows xp setup and it gives me 3 sec to choose another option... Then it comes of that a screen that says its missing some .ddl file if i run the setup one, otherwise it starts up normally. ive run linux on the computer and it NEVER happens when i run linux.

Did you JUST build the computer? OR, has your computer been working
for a long time, and this suddenly started to happen?

Your ram might be set inproperly and it's crashing the system. Really, this
could be happening for any number of reason.
