PC Speed

Currently i am the owner of a laptop(which i use solely), but there is also a family PC for other members of my household. This PC has become slow after 3 years of extensive use, this has seen 512mb of plain ram, change to 256mb of DDR ram and a new motherboard was inserted due to past problems.
The current motherboard is ASROCK k7s41(i have just looked into this motherboard and realised it is an absolute joke of a motherboard and clearly we were ripped by the computer shop:mad: ). Moving on - being that we have 256mb of ddr ram (not sure whether 1 stick or 2 128mb sticks of ram) - anyways does any1 think there will be much of a speed increase when the ram is upgraded to 512mb as will happen tomorow if anybody on here advises this. Please do not suggest upgrading the motherboard as this is currently not an option. Thank in advance:cool:

im thinking that processor is around 1.6 ghz. how much are they charging you to put the ram in. and you have a amd xp not althon

thanks

i dont know - its getting taken into the shop tomorow
im wonderin how much should i expect them to charge
I am buying the memory AND having it fitted - im not sure what memory is needed so i cant really check prices
But yeah an expected price - and whether its worth upgrading my ram??
thanks. for replies...

well your buying 256 mb of ram arent you? that shoundt cost no more then $50 hopefully less. and they shountl charge alot to install it cause it only takes like 10 seconds to install ram.

thanks

thanks - i was thinking around the same price lines
is there much you can tell me about my motherboard and processor - is there much i will ever be able to expect in terms of speed for these
what about overclocking?

well asrock motheboards basiclly suck and you wont be able to overclock much with that motherboard. what do you use the computer for gaming, multitasking or general stuff like internet and word. is your computer a prebuilt computer or did you buy it from hp or someother place.

RAM IS IN - computer is much faster
i just found out my processer is only 1.27ghz:( - but i havnt noticed a problem
thanks
