PC switches itself off

I first became aware of the problem when I tried to run a Adware scan, using Spybot. Part way through the PC simply switched itself off. I had recently received an upgrade for Spybot and suspected this to be the problem, so I shredded the program.

The issue has reared it's head again when I try to burn a DVD, using Nero. All seems fine for a few minutes, then off goes the PC. Upon start up everything is normal.

I suspect that the problem is related to the Mcafee security suite that came as an add on when I changed broadband provider about six months ago.

Before I delete the program and return to Spybot and Grisoft and thought it prudent to seek advice from some one who knows more than me about computers, which i might add, will not take much.

Hi, Welcome to Computer Forum! :)

When did you notice this problem first start, was it when you were doing the Adware Scan?
Perhaps you could go back to a restore point that you know didn't have the problem?

Also, have you installed any new drivers recently?

Thanks for the reply.

No, no new drivers at all. I hadn't used the PC for much more than mailing or browsing for the three months previous, so I had not run any scans other thn the automatic ones McAfee runs in the normal course of working.

So this is a random thing, there isn't anything that you've installed or changed that could cause it to turn off?

You know when it turns off, does it give you a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), or just turn off?

Thanks for the help Kornowski

Just switches off, exactly at the same point every time when burning a DVD, through the credits then off it goes. I'm pretty sure the only thing that has changed , apart from Microsoft updates and security updates, is the McAfee suite.

No problem man!

So, it's only when burning a CD?
I guess you could try removing McAfee, but I don't see how it could cause it... Guess it's worth a shot, right?
