PC went off itself, now not booting up!

I keep my PC on at all times, when I went into the computer room the other day it had switched itself off. Only the amber monitor light was on. I tried to switch PC back on and it starts and has power but doesn't boot up. I can hear the fan going but it does not start up, beep or the monitor does not come on at all.
I guess you could say this PC is on it's last legs as nearly every part in it has been replaced since I bought it over 6 years ago but there are important files and photoraphs I really want to get off the machine before I dump the thing, so i'd really like to at least get it going for a while. I replaced the PSU last year after the PC was not starting and after replacing it worked like a treat, could this be the same problem again, PSU not working?
It's a PB iMedia PC running Windows Proffessional. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i'm not "that" technically minded, although if I knew what the problem was, it would be a good start. Thanks.

If you just want to trash the PC and get a new one while keeping your files, just take the hard drive out and maybe anything else you can salvage and dump it. A new one will be more reliable (hopefully) than trying to repair an old one every time it crashes.

im sure there's a cheaper solution than that.

i would definately take a look at the psu as its indicative as a psu problem. your profile doesn't say what part of the world you live in, if you use fused plugs like we have in the UK check the fuses, its happened to me before.
the only other thing i could think of it being would be the motherboard

So I said he should just take the hard drive out and trash it.
