PC won't boot, no CPU beep either...

About 6 months ago, I essentially rebuilt my pc, replacing the motherboard, cpu, ram and PSU. After working perfectly for a couple of months, it stopped booting, while I could hear the hard drive spinning and everything firing up, there was no cpu beep and the monitors never registered any signal.

I did some googling and found a few fixing (clearing the bios, removing the battery etc) and eventually got it back working. Another couple of months however and I now have the exact issue once more.

I have tried all of the fixes that seemed to work last time, as well as some other things (removing everything but the bare essentials, new cpu battery) but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

For reference I have an Asus P8Z68V-LX running a low end i7 (can't remember which one exactly)

Also, try building the pc outside of the case to make sure you aren't grounding out somewhere. You've got all the brass standoffs in the correct places right?

See, now is where my lack of hardware knowledge starts to show through... haha

Any chance you could elaborate slightly?

Cut a piece of cardboard bigger than the motherboard and set it on it. Then connect all your parts back to the motherboard and see if it boots up. You may have to take the power supply out of the case in order to hook everything up. You really don't need to hook up the power switch as you can just take a screwdriver and touch the 2 pins(where the power switch gets connected to) on the motherboard for the switch and it should start right up.

Alright I'll give it a bash when I get home, if all goes well and It manages to boot that way, I'm assuming a new case is in order?

No, you just need to find out where it shorting out at. You said you replaced the motherboard. Did you make sure you only put the brass standoffs only where needed? If you put them in the wrong spot, thats where its grounding out at. The Asus P8Z68V-LX only requires 6 standoffs. What motherboard did you have before the switch?
