Hi my PC will not boot up, it turns on the fans spin but the monitor stays black. I hooked up the monitor to another computer and it worked. Also I took out the vido/graphics card to see if it was that that was bad and it still did not work. My friend looked at it did the same thing and even reset someting from inside and it still did not work. He said it is the motherboard I just wanted to check here to see what others thought.
Thanks

Thanks I ordered a new board and it should arrive this week and I will get it installed by saturday. I am hoping that was it. One more question when the new board is installed I will still have access to all my info that was stored in the hard drive??? Also by PS you meant power source right? my friend said he did not think it was that.
Thanks again

If someone has a spare P/S you could use, I would check that out first, just because the fans fire up doesnt mean the 3.3 and 5V rails are not dead.

Is the new board the same?

The board needs to have the same chipset,if it doesnt, then the board will not recognize the OS on the hard drive and will simply not work until you format and install a fresh windows on it.

It is not the same board but it is supposed to be compatible. It looks identical to mine, same amount of ports, memory slots etc. The place I ordered it for says the same exact board is hard to find, but that this one should work and has been used by others with the same system

If your running 2000 or XP and use a board with a different chipset, When XP boots it has the wrong chipset drivers and freaks out and blue screens!

Thanks I will hope for the best I was not really prepared to buy a new computer at this point
Thanks for the help
