PC wont start!

My PC wont start when i press the power button.

Green LED on motherboard is ON, and everything looks fine but when i press power button it does nothing, fans don't turn and etc...
I noticed that fans actually start to spin bearly visible like 5 milimeters but then stop and nothing happens...

I tried changing cables to try to power it with reset button in case that power button is broken but that didn't do the trick...i looks like power buttons is OK.

So what could be the problem? PC was running fine till yesterday, and when i tried it today, it wasn't working.

Is maybe CPU dead? Its strange for that to happen over night while PC was turned off...-_-

Athlon x2 5200+
M2N-XE
2GB DDR2
EAH 3650
And PSU i think: FRONTIER 450W ATX - made in china

I would test the power supply. If you have another computer try swapping out the power supply see if she starts. If its not the power supply I would guess that it is the mobo.

CPU's fine. Test your PSU or try another PSU in there. I'd just about guarantee that's the problem. However, if it's not, it's probably a bad mobo as Viision said.

It also might not hurt unplugging all USB/audio/etc cables from the board (internally and externally) and be sure nothing's shorting out.

http://www.computerforum.com/209946-tech-guide-diagnosing-pc-will-not-post-start.html take a read of that and see if anything I suggested there works out for you. Right now it sounds like the board could be shorting on the case. Try removing the board from the case and place it on some wood or a book or something (not carpet or metal though) and see if the PC boots then.

Could perhaps also be a faulty RAM DIMM. If you have 2x1GB DIMMs to make 2GB, try removing one DIMM or reseating both.

All my other suggestions are really in that post I linked to. :)

Ok, thx guys i will try and post the results...:) The only thing that is pluged in PC is power cable...:P

I dont need a hard drive to start a PC right? Only PSU, motherboard, CPU and RAM? If i dont have a graphic card PC will start but will not show a picture, right?

OK, so i removed motherboard from PC case, put it on a wooden desk. There is only a motherboard, CPU, 1 module with 2 gb ram, PSU, and and cable from power button.

I removed also a graphic card.

Same thing happens. When i press the power button, CPU fan only twiches a little bit and then no life signs from PC...:/

Probably PSU got old heh...? :/ It doesnt matter if green LED is on right? Psu could still be weak or something?

I'm not sure if it was a typo but you said you removed the mobo from the PC case? I have a feeling its a faulty mobo but we'll see. Remove the psu from the case its in now and put it into another computer and see if it turns on.

I doubt it's ram if it was it would give bios beeps.
Sometimes a faulty DIMM can prevent the PC from booting.

OK, tried resetting the CMOS or BIOS?

Yes, i removed the battery, still the same thing...:/

Too bad i dont have another similar PC. If i try it with this one i am using, PSU will probably blow up...xD quad core, ATI 6870...no way i will dare to try it on mine. :P

I will try to find some friend to try it working on his PC...:P

If you don't want to try replacing the PSU there are PSU testers you can buy for fairly cheap. Maybe you can go that route?

Or maybe the the cable is faulty;
there could be mice/cat/any other animal except fish bites on it.
the plug could be loose in the socket.
the plug may be loose in the psu
so a little but not enough power is getting to it
but if the pc was on during a power surge like mine it could blow the psu

Agreed but he said that lights were coming on. This leads me to believe its the mobo. But don't want to over look the psu.

I had the same problem with the Gigabyte m-atx motherboard and BitFenix case and Corsair 430. It was always the motherboard. It took 2 changes of the mobo for the new one untill I realised that it was the CPU cooler backplate that was causing the mobo to short. In short - it's the motherboard that's done and should be changed.

Yeah, of course, i dont want to fry my mobo...or my fingers...xD

There is not enough electricity traveling out of the power supply to do you any harm, its just low amperage 12V at best.

But anyway, Iv had similar issues in the past and for me it was the power supplies. I doubt its the CPU, as usually the power will stay on even without a CPU just nothing would load.

Power supplies today (and even a few decades ago) have built in protection circuits. It sounds like there is either a short somewhere, or the PSU cant put out any power so its tripping itself upon starting because it is feeling overloaded.

Bah, same problem over here that caused my CP to completely die on me. Well, what you can do is replace the power supply because I am 100% sure that is the culprit. If not, try removing the small 4 pinned wire from the motherboard and also remove the battery. Next, unplug the power cord from the power supply. Wait 1 minute and plug back the power cord into the power supply. It should start flashing orange which then I would place the 4 pinned wire back into the motherboard and then place the battery. It worked for me until the point where I just decided I was going to start fresh.
