Hiya everyone,

Specs: Packard Bell NEC
Moutherboard: microstar MS_6340 1.0E
BIOS: american megatrends v3.1
256mb SDRAM (will be upgrading to 512mb)
AMD Duron

I recently upgraded from ME to XP Pro sp1 but now when the pc goes to turn off it gets stuck on the "it is now safe to turn off your computer" stage so I have to turn off using the power button.

Any ideas how I can go back to it auto switching off?

Any help would be appreciated

wow packard bell running windows xp... crazy.. anyway maybe reformatting and reinstalling windows xp.. did you ever format the harddrive before you installed xp in the first place?

Dude, Packard Bell comps are quite popular in the UK!

Anyway I must agree with Brad... Sometimes if you just upgrade, you can run into many problems. You really need a clean install.

Thanx dudes, is there nothing in the BIOS that can stop the PC turning off automatically?

sorry allow the pc tp turn off automatically?

If there is then they'll be in the "power" section .. sorry cant be too specific cuz im not familiar with that BIOS

try going to control panel> power options. then turning on advanced power save mode, something along those likes. Worked for me.

Good idea but the problem is kicking in well after the OS has been unloaded :)
