Pci 2.0 & 939?

Just wonderin if anyone knows if PCI Express 2.0 is compatible with socket 939 mobos? I have an HP a1250n and it has one pci express x16 slot, socket 939 athlon X2 +3800. Was going to buy a new video card if I can go 2.0 that would be cool.

You sure? He mentions he has a HP motherboard with a X16 PCI-e slot, then goes on to say he wanted to buy a new card. OP should clarify.

What, he said he had a 939 board and wanted to get a new 2.0 video card and yes it will work! Providing his P/S is big enough.

Yes it will work, and I guess his question can go both ways.

To the OP, can you please clarify if you are asking if you can use PCI-E 2.0 cards with your current motherboard, or if you're asking if PCI-E 2.0 motherboards are made for 2.0?

sry if I didnt clarify well enough. I want to put a new video card in my current HP a1250n. It is socket 939. I currently have an ati x700pro video card and i think its time to upgrade it. Main thing is I want to go ahead and get a dx10 card, so that if i wanted to I could put it into a new computer when I get more money to build one. I was thinkin if 2.0 is the newest thing out there I would go with that if it will work ,for now, in my 939 mobo. I would like to upgrade the mobo in my HP a1250n to socket AM2, but according to HP techs I can't do that becasue I wont be able to acess my hard drive if i change the mobo from their HP standard. And since I dont have a copy of windows xp I cant do a new install and format the drive. Also as to the psu quesiton the hp computer has a 300w in it I will be putting a ozc 700w psu in it because I happen to have one just sitting here waiting on the computer I want to build, but am to poor to build. So I figured for now I would put it to use in the hp case it fits a little sung but it fits.

well dx10 does NOT run on xp so you would have to get vista and if you get vista then you would probably need to build a whole new pc

I thought you could use a dx10 card on xp you just cant access the dx10 potential without vista, it just reverts back to dx9 right? My plan was when I do get the money to build my other computer I will be putting vista ultimate on it. I just want to buy the dx10 card as a for now fix on my hp computer, and then use it later in the computer I want to build.

u can make it so that dx10 games will run on xp but I don't think games like crysis will run on your pc
 
Ok, answer me this then. What I would really like to do is change everything around. I would like to take a new case, mobo, proc, video card, and put it all together, then take the hard drive from my HP computer plug it in the new set up. Then push the power button and everything come on just like it was before but with updated parts. But, I have a strong feeling and after much research that this won't work. I think that I will have to buy a copy of windows xp to boot the system from, format the hard drive and start all over. I am not a tech head I read and research as much as I can before I do anything. I have the confidence to build a computer from scratch, but somethings I just can't find answers for. I would think you could just plug in the hard drive and it would work, but I don't want the unforseen circumstance that it will not boot and then I won't have a computer that works at all, and all my info will be lost. I hope I am not being too much a pain with this question. I am just fed up with this computer and its out dated hardware. I already have a case and psu just sitting here becasue I wanted to build a new computer and test my skills in this area, but I am poor atm, and can't afford everything I need. I can get a proc and mobo, going with am2 becasue they r cheaper but good quality. My current mobo doesn't even support ddr2 just ddr. So, what do yall think I should do. I cannot afford a whole new system OS costs way too much.
 
well if u have a friend u call borrow a xp cd from that person but it has to be a oem cd and u can just use the code off of ur hp pc and you would need to reinstall xp because the drivers (the files that tell xp wat ur hardware is) aren't the same on every pc

I don't know anyone with an xp cd. I think I will just buy a video card for my hp and even if it bottlenecks it has to be some kind of an improvement over my old x700pro card. I would think any newer card has to be an improvement. I have confirmed that dx10 cards work with xp and even if the os doesnt have the dx10 API, the dx10 cards are still an improvement over dx9 cards. Its unified architecture is improved at least. And when I can afford to build my own pc maybe if things havent updated even more i can switch out the cards. Thanks for the help though on the subject.
