PCI bandwidth?

Hi, I'm a first time poster and I'm hoping this is the right place to get my question answered. Thanks in advance!

I'm currently in the market for a peripheral and I'm trying to decide to go with USB2.0, Firewire, or PCI. It's a audio recording interface, but I won't get into that.

What I need to know is how can I find out what the transfer rate is and/or the bandwidth of the PCI slots on my computer? I have an ASUS A8n-SLI Premium. ASUS said it has a bus speed of 166, but that doesn't right and he didn't sound sure. I thought normal PCI went up to 66MHz.

Anyway, I'm just trying to find out the transfer rate on my PCI slots, and can't find it in the manual, so that I can decide which to go with- PCI, USB 2.0, or Firewire- for this interface.

Thanks again!

PCI 2.1 (thats the latest i think), has a speed of 66Mhz, which in turn equals 508.6MBps. It's significantly faster than either USB or Firewire.

If you are looking to get a recording card, I would get a PCI card, as the PCI bus does indeed have more bandwidth than USB 2.0 or IEEE1394a or b.

Even the slowest spec of PCI (133MB/s) still has more data transfer compared to USB 2.0(60MB/s), IEEE1394a(50MB/s) or IEEE1394b(100MB/s).

For the record, the latest (and last) PCI spec is PCI 3.0.

My mistake, I guess thats what happens when you do a google search and dont thoroughly search the sites.
