my motherboard has 3 pci slots, and one agp slot. No idea if it is 4x or 8x don't know how to tell. I was wondering if pci cards would be better for gaming. Also My computer is a gateway 310 series and the mother board is only able to support 512mb of sd pc2100 166mhz ram. This is not very good for gaming i assume? should i just get a new motherboard.. I am beyond confused. I was thinking that maybe i should jsut get a new computer

I was thinking of getting a computer from cyberpowerinc.com
probably with an athlon 64 3000
1g of pc 3200 ram
geforce fx 5700 or 6600 (256mb ram)
80gb hard drive
400w power supply
for about 580-680 bucks
i was wondering if that would be abetter investment for gaming than just upgrading my ram to 512 and getting a new video card in my old computer.
Also how do i know which video card are compatible with my motherboard?

oh ad as for my "gaming" i plan on playing games like UT2004, battle for middle earth, possibley halflife 2

many questions i know but i am very confused.

AGP is better for video cards then pci. if you have a agp 4x or 8x it should be compatiable with almost all video cards. PCI graphics card or bad for gamming. use http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php#download to make sure you have agp 8x or 4x if you have 2x then it not compatiable with any of today agp cards (unliky you have a 2x but my old computer had one so it is possiable)

I need more details on your system before I can determin that like your cpu and video card.

If you can afford to buy a new computer that is your best option. That computer on cyberpowerinc looks decent. deffinally go with the geforce 6600 or if it a option go with a 6600 GT.

I not sure untill I get more details on what you currently have. upgrading to 512 ram should help espcially if you running windows xp. getting a better graphic card will help but how much depends if your cpu is holding you back or not which I cant say till I know what cpu you have.

give the info you get from cpuz plus your video card information so we can answer you better

Well youll have to decide that before any useful advice can be rendered :)

Depends what you have now.

my cpu is a celeron processer 2.4 ghz
ram 256mb sdram pc 2100 166mhz (max i can hold is 512)
40gig hard drive
on board vid card (i think its a 64mb one)

anything else you need to know?

Thats enough information to work with for now but now the question is, what's the budget? :)

You're prolly best off getting a second computer (that way you can even network them) :)

I'd say get the one off that website. Assuming it's a custom built, that's also better incase you want to upgrade in the future.
