Pci-e 2.0?

I would like to know if anyone is running a 2.0 card on a 1.0 slot board. I want to get a 8800gt, but I keep finding mixed reviews about compatability. I have a socket 939 mobo and 3dmark05 tells me that my pci express slot is version 1.0. I know it's supposed to be backwards compatible, but I don't want to order the card from newegg ,then it not work and be out all that money. I have a oem system so upgrading the mobo is out. I have already installed a 700w psu. I have seen some people say it works and some say it won't is there no definative answer? I don't like to leave my money up to chance. Thanks for your help in advance.
 
Cool thanks for the info. I'm going to move all my componets out of my hp case and into a bigger one to help with the heat problems ,I keep reading about, with the 8800gt.
 
Umm... I'm talking about pci-e x16. For the video card my x16 slot is version 1.0, and I want to use a x16 version 2.0 card. I guess thats what your askin.
