PCI Express 1 What does it do?

I have an ASUS M2N-E SLI, and it has 2 PCI Express 1 slots. I was wondering what they do. Can you get and adapter for them to join SLI when two cards are too far apart?

can't do anything with it regarding to sli or video cards.
just another slot in which you can insert expansion cards.

I've seen audio cards with the pci-e 1x slot and some enthusiast network cards
but nothing that would really use the bandwith. with the exception of some very expensive raid controllers.

There are a few PCI-express X1 video cards out there, but they're all low end/low profile cards. Other than that, there are sound cards, tv tuners, nics and raid controller cards.

I hate them, id rather have more PCI vs PCIe x1, slots I doubt ill use any time in the near future.

it makes you lunch

actually, its just another expansion slot. i bet it will be used a lot more in the future for audio cards, wifi cards, firewire, NICs, etc

As time goes on and more manufacturers make PCIe cards the less and less you will see PCI interface cards and slots. They wil probable go to the way side just like the ISA slot.

"Asus Radeon HD 9600GT PCI Express Graphics Card" stupid advertisement =P (NexTag)

But anyways, like everyone else said, the x1 slot is just another expansion slot. Personally, I kinda of like them. I use it for my SATA controller card. (not listed in my sig)
