PCI express 2.0 vs 3.0

Hi there. I have been thinking of upgrading my video card to a gtx 970, however I've been wondering if my PCI express 2.0 motherboard is going to limit performance much. I read someone say that it's only a 1-2 fps difference, but I want to get a second opinion. So yeah, is PCI express 2.0 (x16) really that much slower on a gtx 770 or 970 than PCI express 3.0 (x16)? Thanks.

For a single card it's pretty negligible.

GTX970 is hard to recommend because only 3.5GB memory is fast and also AMD R9 390 is much more future proof.

PCI Express 2.0 is not bottkleneck for any single CPU card as shown above.
