The specifications on my HP A1310n say that I have Two PCI Slots Available and One PCI Express Slot Available...I'm bout to get a new video card...a 7600gs or gt...and I was wondering how to tell if your computer has a PCI Express Slot or a PCI Expressx16...or are they the same thing? will a 7600gs or gt work in a PCI Expressx1 and not PCI Expressx16? or vice versa'?

sorry im new to all this

I seriously doubt one of those is actually not 16x. Very few video cards aren't 16x. Mostly only professional workstation type video cards are 1x

You can always open it up, if the PCI-E slot is smaller than the PCI slot, than it's not an x16. If it's roughly the same size, then its PCI-E x16.

Did you mean PCI and PCI-Express? Because there's PCI Express 1x(which is what I thought you mean by plain old PCI express :P) and higher numbers. I've even heard some stuff about 32x!

sorry for the confusion...basically I just recently bought this computer (in january) and in the specifications it says I have one free PCI Express Slot...i want to know if its PCI Express x1 or PCI Expressx16...cuz the graphics card i want (7600gs) is a PCI-Expressx16...is there any way to tell? or is it assumed that I have a PCI Expressx16 because my comp is relatively new...? its an HP A1310N....

If a computer has PCI-Express, 99% of the time, it has AT LEAST one 16x. Sometimes more, almost never(if ever) less...

Besides, your computer's probably identical to mine, only HP branded :P
