PCI Express vs. AGP

Can someone explain the differences between AGP and PCI express to me in lamen's terms (i think that's how u spell it)?

i have a ATI Radeon 9800XT graphics card, and I believe its AGP and my friend just got a ASUS mobo with PCI express support only, and he was complaining aobut how expensive a PCI express graphics card would be, but how its sooo much better than AGP graphics cards...

I just wanna know the difference, and possibly the pros and cons of the two.

PCI Express isn't any better than AGP at the moment
Getting PCI Express right now just lets you prepare for later cards
