hi all
I have just purchased an alcatel speedtouch pc (pci) modem.
I can not for the life of me figure out how to install the drivers
(which I downloaded as a zip file).
I have unzipped the file but there is no auto install package in it.

The pci card is physically installed into the pc tower and the leds are
alight (2 green, 1 red, 1 orange), so I assume there is power going to the device however I can not find the device in my device manager.

this is what I have purchased
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BN-ADSL-Broadband-Alcatel-Speedtouch-Internal-PCI-Modem_W0QQitemZ140100765585QQcategoryZ62025QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item140100765585

my level of computer understanding is average, so please instruct me concicely and without too much technobabble, thank you.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Wolfie-

First off, if the card is into a slot in your machine, and Win XP can't detect it, or doesn't see it under the yellow "?" mark as "Other Devices" - the card should be plug-n-play detected.

The drivers which you downloaded are to install the modem into the system properly so that XP can communicate with it. However, if "Other Devices" doesn't show up as a detection of PCI Modem, then something could be wrong with the modem... or it isn't properly inserted into the slot. Try moving it around to another slot and see if XP detects it!

Essentially it must be detected first prior to installing the driver software. Otherwise, the device (modem) is probably bad and was when you bought it. Hopefully you didn't buy it there on e-bay without some kind of warranty or guarantee that if it doesn't work you can get a refund????

But, tell us first, is it being detected in XP's device manager?

i now have the drivers installed but the modem will not connect to the net.
all i get now is 'remote computer failed to respond'

I guess that must be a connection settings problem.

thanks both of you, you're posts helped me greatly.
