PCI Vista compataible graphics card?

Hey,

I've been searching for hours for a graphics card which is PCI and is vista compataible (as in will enable Windows Aero). However, I'm having difficulty finding any that can be purchased in the UK?

It's my birthday soon and I need to find one by today as I'm going away tomorrow and my parents need to know what I would like, so any help would be very much appreciated!

Simple, all 8***(8400gs,8500gt,8600gt,8600gts,8800gts,8800gtx,8800Ultra) series are vista compatible and it's PCI-E too,u have crads from 50$ to almost 1000$.

That should be enough.
 
I don't think any PCI video cards will handle vista that well. I believe the 6200, x1300 and x1550 are the best PCI cards on the market. You can find them all on newegg.com. However, they are much more expensive than their pci-e countparts.
 
It needs to be PCI. I only have PCI slots. I've found a number of ones which would enable Aero but they all need to be ordered from the US!
 
Thanks diduknowthat, but newegg.com means the product has to be shipped over to the UK (if they even do shipping). I found a graphics card which would work just perfect for my computer on Dell, but I could only find it on the USA part of the site.

I'm going away tomorrow and I'm almost desperate now :(. I've found a more than 5 from the USA, but not one from the UK!

I believe any of the X1K series is Vista compatible, such as the x1300 and x1550.
 
actually your PCI slot can run AGP. i tried it before it worked. i know there is like a small block in the slot. just break it when you put the AGP card in. your AGP card might not run as fast as it should be but still faster than PCI. hope it works for you

You kiddin right?

1. Pin size is different
2. Different Lengths
3. Why were AGP slots created if you could use PCI slots?
4. It wouldnt run at all

sorry i can not provide you with a pciture because i already bought a new PC. a PCI graphic card is not so much different than AGP. PCI graphic card slot is not the same as the REGULAR PCI slots now we all have. PCI graphic card slots are separatly into 3 blocks. while AGP cards pins are seperated into 2 blocks. i tried it by just force it in and break one of them blockers( seperators ) it works but it is running only at 4x. i tried it with x1950pro . it is running very slower than it is suppose to be running.

it is okay you don't trust me. i don't expect you to and i don't want you to

Wrong, a PCI slot is a lot different then an AGP slot. For one, it's much faster then the traditional AGP 8x slot. It also shares bandwidth among other PCI devices, so that even further can cripple the performance of higher end PCI cards.

Wrong again. There is and never has been a separate style PCI slot solely for graphics cards. And a PCI slot is one physical piece, but has one separator, so I guess you could say it's in two "blocks", not three.

You can not use an AGP card in a PCI slot, or vice versa. You can use the x1950PRO in an AGP 4x slot however, but it will not cause the separator to break.


Here is a picture from a somewhat modern board. Note that the PCI slots are all identical, and they are not in 3 blocks.
