this may sound a bit stupid, but then im just geting into building up my comp.

but any way i was wondering if PCI and PCI-E were the same? and if i buy a PCI-E graphics card would it go into my motherboaed which has PCI or would i have to get a new motherboard?

They are different expansion slots, so i a PCI-E wouldnt fit into a standard PCI slot.

What does PCI stand for? PCI-E is of course PCI-Express, but the actual PCI bit i dont know (Terrible, i know )

No problem, thats what we're here for. If you're a gamer, then a motherboard upgrade would probably be advisable, as the best pci card you can get is the FX5700 LE, which isnt particuly good.

at the mo im just sorting out components that i can transfare.
btw can you tell if it is a pci or pci-e slot by looking at it?
