pcmcia to rs232 not working

Im trying to make a pcmcia card work in windows xp. So far I am having no luck at all. I have been searching the internet for some time now and cannot seem to find a good enough answer or solution. I have never used a PCMCIA slot before so need to clarify a couple of things:

  1. Does the PCMCIA slot act like USB plug and play? Should the device automatically be recognised when plugged in to the slot and ask if drivers need to be installed?
  2. I cannot seem to see to see any EXCLAMATION yellow marks in device manager, where would I see the PCMCIA slot in Windows XP?

The device im connecting is a pcmcia to rs232 card. Im thinking if I could manually add this device, that would probably solve the issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It should be similar to USB, yes. So it should detect the device and attempt to install a driver. Check Device Manager and see if there are any devices missing drivers.

I use to mess with all kinds of PCMCIA cards and they all required some driver. Google the manufacture and model of the card for the driver.
