i have a sony vaio laptop model pcg-grx560. i am inserting a pcmcia wireless card in it and its not recognizing it for some reason. the power is on but the computer doesnt know its there. is there anything else i need to install to get it to work.

when i plug it in it makes that beeping noise that says its good except it does it like 5 times and it doesnt show up as being plugged in.

thanks

Are the drivers installed? It sounds like the hardware is showing up in device manager if you can tell that it is enabled. Try the other slot. After you plug it in, right click network neighborhood, and see what connections show up, right click the wirless connection, properties, and make sure that device is enabled and has the correct settings.

yeah i tried both slots. the other slot wont even power the card up. i have 2 wireless cards so i know its not a defective card plus i tried it on my other laptop.
the sony site shows no drivers for it. however the hardware manager does show the controllers for it. the controllers are visible though whether or not something is plugged in. the hardware doesnt get detected anywhere so i can't do any kind of settings. i hate this sony laptop.

for my toshiba laptop my driver disk didnt work, im using a linksys pcmcia card.assuming your using windows xp, try going to control pannel, switch it to classic view, double click add new hardware, on the new screen that pops up click next, make shure the card and driver cd is in then click yes the divice is connected then next, then see if your divice is on the list, if it is then click it and go next, if not then go to the verry bottom of the list and add new hardware and click next, click the advanced option then next then find your divice on the list, im not too sure from this point on cuz i cant test it out because i have all my devices installed, but from what i remember their should be a option to find the drivers for it manualy instead of it looking for you and their will be a bunch of boxes you can check off for it looking for the drivers in certain optical drives, make shure you check off the cdrom or dvdrom drive the disk w/ the drivers is in, and if its a floppy check off that drive. now it will search for drivers in those places and hopfully find them. Post back on how it works out.

when i plug it in the ethernet controller under device manager shows a yellow quotation mark. i installed the drivers from the site and it didnt work. i have a wireless b linksys model wpc11 ver.4
