Pc's OS Keys

I have an old emachines pc that had xp home, an it still has the product key on the back of the case, but the hdd is shot, and the motherboard is fried. Can i still use the key on the back of the emachines? Also is there a way to use the key without having to buy a whole new key and os software, as i already have the key, but i don't have a copy of xp home to use the emachines key on. Also, i have a old dell with windows 95(gasps at it's age). it has a partition still with all of the files, but for some reason, when i boot it up(the few times it does boot that is) it says "Operating System Not Found", but according to gparted, there is still a fat32 partition on the hdd with files on it. is there a way to extract the windows 95 product key without being able to boot into it"? Also, if there is a method to get xp home software only, no key, is there a way to do the same thing with the windows 95 Dell. Thanks for any help!
P.S. Don't know if it matters, but the dell is a dimension xps d233.
 
Some no's are the answer to a few things. For the eMachines model you would have to contact eMachines tech support and explain the failed drive or simply buy a full install disk and use the product key for the disk.

With the serial number and original drive intact you would provided a link to download images for 5 cds in order to restore the system. Otherwise plan a clean install and download the updates for that model from the support site like board and sound drivers.

WIN95 ran on Fat16 not 32 being a 16bit version of Windows. 95PLUS saw OSR2 for 32bit support included in the second edition proceeding 98. You can copy files from the drive using an MS Dos 6.22 boot floppy for manual copy or boot from one of the few live Linux distros for file transfer.

As far as extracting products those are bound to that machine alone. That's an obvious "no" answer there.
 
well, i just got the dell to boot, it turns out it has windows 98, which would explain the fat32 partition. So theres no way to get operating system software legally with just the software only, but not a key? Then why can you buy os keys without the software from a store?
 
The price you pay for retail or OEM is for the license to use the software to start with. You're also asking questions we can't answer here.
