PDF's opening in IE instead of Adobe Reader

Hi,

I have a user whose PDF’s keep opening in IE instead of Abobe Reader. She uses Reader v11 and is trying opening PDF’s which are saved on the web. I have associated them to open in Reader by checking ‘display in read mode by default’ in the internet section of preferences within Reader itself. However they still seem to open in IE. The strange thing is that this problem occurs on whatever PC she uses (as she hotdesks) so it’s something embedded in her profile.

Does anyone know what this might be?

What version of IE are you running? What version of Windows?

If you open a PDF saved on the local computer what happens?

Adobe installs a browser plugin to open them inside IE. Have a read through this for how to disable it: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html

Foxit isn't perfect but at least it's not a 90MB PDF reader. However, it has a browser plugin that will display PDFs in IE as well so while it is an alternative the problem might still exist. It may be easy to display the plug, probably the same process as for the adobe one.

Disabling the IE add-on for Adobe Reader has resolved this - Now online PDF's are opening in Adobe Reader rather than IE.
