no, you dont need a old monitor.

Use Everest or CPU-Z to get the specs and post back.

P.s. Does another monitor/card work?

It'd be nice if the computer would display something....but then again, you could just look at the processor used and read labels (year made, how old parts are, number of RAM slots, manufacture dates of parts, etc.) to get an estimate of what you're dealing with.

isnt ther any way to check if a g cards faulty with out putting it in another system

Sure, diagnostic tools. However, that'll cost you.

Try clearing the CMOS by taking out the battery for 20 seonds (if possible) or flipping the CMOS switch to clear it. That should reset the BIOS in case any kid from school messed with it and changed the display output from AGP to PCI.

lol, duh, was doing many threads that time. Clearing the CMOS would indeed be the first option then. :P

Indeed, gonna need to know the specs of the machine before any useful help can be rendered.

clear the cmos and try to boot it up
if that doesn't work then try replacing the cmos battery
