Pentium D is not Pentium (R) ?

Here's a dumb question... I placed a processor in the slot of a different motherboard, it fit and the BIOS read the processor, but I don't think the processor is compatible with the motherboard as I have not been able to get the OS to load.

This is what the manual said assuming it is correct

Socket LGA775 for Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium D Processor

Anyway I'm going to pop the old processor in just to get a working OS/computer

Surprised Linux is not working... taking a long time, haven't been able to get it to load... stuck at mouse trying different inputs.
 
I popped the old processor in, didn't work either... maybe there is something wrong with the HDD, which sucks... this was given to me by a friend but whatever.

Yeah, I put the other one back together and it works, booted right up... not sure what the difference was / what happened...

This was the BSOD error that appeared

0x0000007b (0x80786B58, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Anyway, the whole thing I was trying to fix was lack of sound, as apparently there aren't any windows 7 audio drivers for this computer (Dimension 4700) which was upgraded from XP. At least I have a working OS still.
 
0x0000007b = Inaccessible boot device, basically means you have a bad hard drive. Now this could mean it just has errors on it which can be fixed or the drive is totally shot. You would have to run a diagnostic on it to determine that. What brand of drive is it?
 
I found this post to be amazing. Not that I really care a lot about computer specifics, but it hurts to see an enthusiast with so much in depth foresight into the scene. I find that people who use computers look too heavily into the background noise and what you said really rings a bell. I hope you do well. Pentium D not a Pentium, I love that.

I'm sorry for the late response, I sort of bounce around all over the place with different interests. I will post the details in a moment, but overall they are just garbage computers, antiquated and I was trying to swap parts, although they physically fit together, apparently they are not compatible.

Actually forget this post(what I mentioned), I'm running the optimal solution out of the parts that I have.

Anyway, thank you again.
