Pentium Dual Core vs Pentium Core 2 Duo

Hello All ,

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Pentium Dual Core and Core 2 Duo.

I have heard that the performance of effeciency of core 2 duo is superior to Dual core.

But I fail to Understand both the Brand Names suggest that Dual core ( 2 cores ) and core 2 duo also 2 core ?

i would like to know the architectural difference !!

they strapped two together and called it a pentium d, they suck dont buy one

the core 2 is using the core architecture, which, all you need to know is better
core2solo(laptop)=1 core
core2duo = 2 cores
core2quad=4 cores

even though the core2's are clocked lower, they are better still.

here look at this graph, the two red bars are similairly priced core2's and pD's

DAMN PENTIUM RACIST!!!!:mad: my PD is wonderful for gaming. i know they arent as good as a C2D, but who cares? it will still play my games on high settings with little or no lag. besides, in a year or so i will upgrade. no need to now.

btw, there is no such thing a a pentium dual-core. it is just a Pentium D.

Uh... a Pentium D is a dual core and is more or less what Bradan said they are (2 pentium 4 cores stuck together).
 
I Have a pentium D 915 Its Home is in the package That my E6600 came in :P
No but seriously its a good processor. I only thought of it flawed when I tried to play medieval total war II with settings high and an @ssload of soldiers onscreen. Never tried overclocking it cuz of my crappy MOBO, but I would have needed a new cooling system too. it ran around 60c in bios w/stock cooler. HOT processor.for the money I think pentium D is great but core2 duo is better performance.

Did Bradan say that they experienced lag? Do you not agree that they suck compared to the Core 2 Duo? Don't assume that he was dissing you guys, assume makes an ass out of u and me
 
He did say that there was some on high settings (by him saying little or no lag). Although you are right, there's nothing wrong with a pentium D it's just not as good as an A64 X2 or C2D.

Maybe you heard of Pentium 4 Prescott, nicknamed "Preshot". The Pentium D are a lot less efficient than Core 2 Duo, that is why the Core 2 Duo has more OC'ing room.

well, the Presler core PDs and the Cedar Mill core P4s are much better at heat because of the 65nm process. i got a prescott and HATE it. love the PD tho. runs a 57c full 45c idle.
 
my brother has a pentium d and a 7900 gtx

I have whats in my sig, core2 and a 1950 pro

i usually get 160fps in the css fps test and he gets near 90

its a clear bottleneck.

at my clocks, were seeing a 90 vs 140 fps which is a 40+% increase in performance.

when the processor is under load, like when there are lots of physics calculations, more players in the game, or bots

the core2 shows 220% of the performance of the pentium d

pentium d's suck. my brother is constantly complaining about how much he spent a while back
 
the pentium d runs fine on maps like de_dust2 with less than 12 people
usually gets like 100+fps

when your in a game with over that, especially 25+ like on zombie maps
he gets <20 Fps, its sad

my core 2 gets 100+ no matter the conditions
