Pentium E6700 trouble

CPU-Z says this CPU is running at 1.6 ghz when it is clearly a 3.2 ghz processor. The multipler in it keeps changing from x12 to x6 and vice versa and I have no idea why or how to turn it off. I bought this CPU as an upgrade from the e2200 so I could get better fps in BBC2 but I haven't had any luck with it. I've seen an increase of maybe 3 or 4 fps. I have a Geforce GTS 250 1gb.

So far this processor isn't really acting like an upgrade and I don't know how to keep it running at 3.2ghz. I've noticed soemtimes in bbc2 I get like 30-40 fps but im not for sure if its because the processor was running at 3.2 ghz or if I was in a less graphical intensive area. please help :(

Oh and also, my WIE rating went down from 5.2 to 4.6 when I got this processor??? I don't understand.

well the changing multiplier is a feature that saves power by down clocking your processor when it does not need to be used at it's full speed. I believe it is called speed step for Intel processors. You should be able to go into your bios and disable that feature and then it will always stay at 3.2GHz.

For your WEI rating, that might be fixed with a bios update. I'm not too sure how you do it for your board. I'm sure someone here can figure it out.

BFBC2 is coded for quad cores and even with my system I need to tone down the settings to get good frame rates (like 40+) so the frame rates that you are getting are not all that surprising to me.

yeah thanks man ill upgrade the bios, and really bbc2 is that bad? I mean I dont expect 40+ fps but shouldnt i be getting better than 15-20 fps with these specs?

odd. Are you sure that you flashed to the correct version of the bios?

i got it fixed man thanks a lot for your help, steamed popped up with one of those updates while i was upgrading my bios and i guess the update went to hell so i had to redo it. I think im gonna ride this comp out for anohter couple months then just buy a whole new mobo, proc, and case.

Again thanks for your help man.
