Permanently Destroying Data

Aloha everyone!

I was hoping I could get some device on physically destroying my computer as I need to permanently get rid of some data. I was planning on taking a hammer to it, but I don't know exactly what part I am to destroy (took a pic, but too big to upload here). I can't seem to find these "platter" things. I also thought about pouring bleach on it or soaking it in water, but I'm a little scared of chemical reactions and/or electrocution.

Thanks in advance for your help.

can't you just format it, unless you think for some reason that the goverment are going to send computer specialists to examine your HDD.

Formatting doesn't destroy the data. The only way to destroy the data is to overwrite it.
There are programs you can download that will overwrite the data like 10 times. With
each cycle, it becomes less and less recoverable.

But if you pissed off the government, chances are you traces will be at the Internet
Service Provider, so you can't hide your tracks anyway. Time to make the puppy face
and start practicing "I didn't know it was a government server, I was only looking for
the latest Miley Cyrus song".

lol, true it doesent destroy all the data, but who is going to try to fix an old hdd and get all the data off it, you would just put a new OS on it. If you think someone would then destroy the hdd.

You can pay people to extract the data even after a fair few wipes, although the best way is to either smash and scratch the living daylights out of it, Freeze-thaw it a few times, or my personal favourite, KILL IT WITH FIRE!

wow, why would you need to go to that extreme, what you guys up to lol. Well unless you have all your personal finances on your computer.
