permissions

I have a HD from a previous computer on it. For some reason I cant access the security tab to change the permissions. I have done it before, and I know how to do it... And yes I am using XP pro

The usual problems are if it is formatted with Fat,16,32 and not NTFS...
I checked in disk management and it is, for sure, NTFS. I also know that if it is setup in simple form that you usually can't change any permissions.

My question is does anyone have a tool so that I can change permissions by force or something that can get me in.

I do feel stupid not taking off the password of windows before I took out the HD. Now the MB and tower are chucked... I assumed I would be able to change the permissions:o

well, it sounds like you have some items in "my documents" that got stuck there because an account or two were set to private?

anyways, i forgot what its called but i think your best option is to use one of those linux versions that boots directly from a CD (doesnt copy files to the HDD) to start up and you should be able to view the files from there.
