phenom x4 and phenom x6

Both are old and outdated. Check out the 4300 or the 6300 Vishera. Assuming you have an AM3+ motherboard that is.
 
It all depends on what motherboard you have. If you can give us the model number of motherboard we can make sure what processor would be best.
 
Your board only supports the 1045t. The 965 is a 125 watt cpu which your board doesn't support. So the 1045t is the one you need to get.
 
You can't install the 965 because your board doesn't support it. You will need to buy the 1045t.
 
Doesnt support the 125W 965 so it doesnt really matter. But in most stuff the X4 would be faster, clocked higher, plus its unlocked. The 1045 is locked and harder to overclock. But most programs/games only use up to 4 cores. The FX 6300 would out perform both of them.
 
Real cores. A Intel with HT has what you could call virtual cores. AMD FX just share some upperend and L2 cache, but each module has two sets of pipelines.

Looks to me the 6300 is quite a bit faster, look at the gaming at the bottom. Plus the 1045 is 100mhz slower then the 1055. The 6300 is unlocked too and overclocks way better.
 
Yeah BF3 really just needs GPU, i can max it comfortably on a 960t (3GHz phenom II x4) and my GTX470 @ 1280*960, only limitation for me is some maps want more memory than the 470 has so it can cause some hickups. And you mentioned the 7770 which is slower and has less vRAM so don't expect more than medium/low at 1080p unless you have a 2gb and get another for crossfire
