phone unlocking software.

as in unlocking the service provider to use a diff sim or unlock as in the code they have when you turn it on?

Depends on the model even. Every different phone has a different method of unlocking, for some you just have to know the right sequence of codes to enter, others you have to hook up to a computer and flash new firmware on it, but most you have to have a special code that corresponds to the phone's IMEI number, something you have to get from your service provider or buy from a third party.

Just call your carrier and tell them that you are leaving the country on a business trip and require the phone to be unlocked. Most US carriers will give you the code for free.

Most of the free unlock code generators I have seen only cover older phones. The algorithms for generating unlock codes seem to be pretty closely guarded. If you post the model of phone you have I might be able to get you a little more info.

When I get the phone from my uncle I will post the phone model and stuff.
Thanks

If you are unlocking a phone to sell, thats illegal.

If you are unlocking a phone to change your sims access thats fine.

If you unlock a iphone etc thats illegal (copyright infringment).

Its quite complicated actually.

It's not illegal to unlock a phone, all you have to do is call the carrier of the phone and tell them you want the unlock code and they have to give it to you. You can also unlock iphones or you can buy unlocked iphones from overstock. The only thing you have to be careful of is that the vendor you buy the phone from is suppose to have that imei number to sell. This was the problem I had with my first blackberry storm that I bought from JR.com. That one was stolen and could never be set up. I bought a replacement from overstock and it works great. I always buy unlocked phones.

Vendors purchase the locked phones, then call the service providers and get the codes, they unlock the phones and then sell them.
