photo editing software

Hello all,
I am looking for some software that edit a pic in a cool way (i.e. add frames to it, change the look of a face....) like the one that is equipped with the built-in cam.
Any help?
Thanks in advance

Well you can do all of that with Adobe Photoshop but it's a bit more advanced for beginners. If you have experience with it, it should be easy. Also there are many tutorials online that can help you as well. :)

Gimp is a fine choice. Paint.net is a good choice with less of a learning curve... but less features.

If you are familiar with Photoshop methods, you may like the Gimp, which appears to me to be very similar in layout and methods.
For my purposes, I have yet to find anything both as easy to use and as comprehensive as Photoimpact. I have tried the Gimp and found the basic features reasonably easy, but the more advanced I tried to get, the more obscure were the methods.

Regard's,
Ben Almeer,

Photo scape is pretty popular around here, but sure, i'd rather suggest Gimp. It's open source, and seems, just superiour.

Gimp and photoscape are what I have. I use gimp for graphics designing, and photoscape for pictures.

Adobe

The Adobe creative suite has pretty much everything you need for pictures, video, sound, web, etc. For editing pictures Photoshop, and illustrator are my favorites. Bridge can connect to your camera and interact with all the other adobe software. InDesign and Fireworks are also included in the creative suite. I haven't used them yet, but I heard they are great for photo editing. They are a little difficult for beginners, Adobe TV and youtube both have great tutorials.

Adobe isn't free though. Gimp will do all Photoshop does for photo editing and it is Open Source. I use Fireworks, but to be honest, Gimp is better.

I use GIMP all the way.

I believe it had almost every feature of a paid Photoshop suite (such as Adobe). The only difference i have found is that most of the fonts, brushes and what not, aren't in the original download. But a person can download fonts/brushes and what not from places (i can't remember where i downloaded mine).

I agree that GIMP is a great free alternative to Photoshop. If you're looking for a free editor, GIMP all the way.

If you're looking for something relatively cheap (less than £100), Corel PaintShop Pro is good (I tried X3 about 3 years ago and liked it, I believe X5 is out now) and Photoshop Elements is good too.

If you're processing and editing RAW files then you can't beat Photoshop Lightroom 4 which is about £80 or so I believe, so not too expensive at all.

If you don't want to spend money on softwares, you can always get UFRaw, which is either in Gimp or as a stand alone program. I use it myself for RAW editing :).
