Photo Retrieval

Hello

Recently my laptop was restored to factory settings by PC world. Unfortunately my wife hadn't told me that she had stored her photos on the laptop. A friend has kindly retrieved all the images but they only appear as thumbnails. Can the thumbnails be converted to photos? Sorry if I have got the terminology wrong but I'm not that clued up when it comes to computers.
 
Maybe something happened in the recovery process. What program was used to recover the files?
 
It looks like Auslogics File Recovery v4 3.0.0 was used to recover the files. There is a folder of that name in the removable hard drive that he has restored the photos to.
 
Sorry, I have no idea without looking at the pc myself. Never seen such an issue.
