i really really need someone help from anyone who is good with photoshop. I'm using cs3 and i'm trying to edit a picture. this is for a present for my girlfriend and i want it to look its best. i'm not what one for editing pictures, so i dont know how to use photoshop. what i need to do is take a certain part out of a picture, or rather, take other things out of a picture. so, my question is: can anyone either do this for me, or teach me how? here are the pictures:
twilight-movie-poster.jpg

i want the word twilight by itself, so that i can use it on other things and i'd also like this whole picture but with only the word twilight. then....
twilight1.jpg

i want to cut all the characters except the front two (edward and bella for those who know of twilight)
[p]
i would love any help that anyone could offer. like i said, i dont expect someone to do everything for me, so if someone could just like, point me in the right direction...this is really important to me...

Lasso tool, magnetic lasso tool !!

am nearly done with the text.
It's better you use magnetic lasso around the characters then select inverse and chop everybody else out.

cheers

twilight text (i just found a higher res version on google)

it looks much better on a background that isn't white.
for the full PNG with transparency just right click and save the image rather than copy and paste.
Whatever you are going to put this on, just user feather or blur or a soft eraser to blend his hair in with the background.

nice but you need to trim the edges softer. hopefully the OP won't place this on a white BG as it surely won't be any good.

I actually updated it before you replied, its a little sharper but closer to the edges. Hair is too much of a pain for me to go strand by strand with a 1 pixel brush so I suppose the OP can learn a little about blending things into his background.
Well when I cut something out, I usually know what it is going to be on and will adapt how I cut it out according to what it is going to be on.

That's what I initially tried to do but I wanted to preserve the detail in the hair. Also, regardless of if it is soft or not, it looks bad on a white background.

you guys are incredible. thanks so much. i really mean it. they look great. and no worries, i'll be sure to learn to mess with this myself so i'm not a hassle in the future. thanks again.

Photoshop elements is just the condensed version of photoshop correct? What tool did you use to get the hairs so good? Extract?

I went about it differently and used the "clone" tool. I cloned the sky and ground over the unwanted people. The "twilight" was a "selection", cut and paste.

I didnt notice where you used the clone tool till you pointed that out but now i do see it, good job though!
