Picking a laptop...

Hey everyone, I know you must get a million of threads like this but I'm looking for a lightweight laptop that would last a while without being plugged in (As everyone I know who owns a laptop has to have it plugged in) but I don't want a Netbook.
I'm assuming everyone on here if from the US, well I'm from the UK and my price range is about £400, can anyone help me find something? Thanks

No help in picking a specific laptop, but help in picking a brand:
Avoid HP/Compaq, Gateway, and Acer. They have had the worst record
for reliability for the last 2+ years. Asus, Toshiba, and Sony Vaio
have been the best. See below:

These laptop is not suitable for gaming
