Pictures aren't printed as they are displayed in Word documents

Hello community

The title captures the problem pretty well. Pictures in a Word document are printed with less width than they are shown in the document, so I have to widen them in trial and error until they look right on the printed page. Height is ok and so is the text.
This has been an issue for some months now and since I print pictures a lot it's really annoying.

Word version is 2007 and OS is Win 8.1.
The printer is an HP, I will post the exact model later today if needed.

I hope you can help me solve this.

Any help is highly appreciated.
 
Take a screen shot of the pic and then a photo of the print out so we can assess the difference.

It sounds like a scaling issue in the print settings.
 
Since the problem is on my mom's PC that's gonna take a while.

How can I access those settings you mentioned?

Or could it help to uninstall the printer in device manager and then reinstall it?

We really can't know anything until you show us what it looks like on your computer versus what it actually looks like out of the printer.

EDIT: How come my signature doesn't show on my comments? In my settings it's there. Do they need some time to verify it or something like that?

Could be or is??? If using usb connection unhook it. Install the hp software and driver then plug in usb cable when it tells you to.
 
Well, the problem is that the printer is at my mom's where I don't live anymore. Guess I should've mentioned that earlier. This is also why it could take longer to get the screenshots and photos requested earlier.
I've used my laptop to print from the printer in question some time ago so I thought the printer would still show up...
I'll try to get the infos as quick as possible.
 
About the pictures and printer model: My Mom's on vacation so I'll only be able to post those somewhere around the week after the coming one...

EDIT: I'm afraid it's gonna take until around christmas to get the info. My time is completely consumed by studying at the moment.

Okay it looks like the problem solved itself somehow. A few days ago I printed some album covers and the came out fine. Maybe there was an update that fixed it.

Anyway thanks for your help!
