Picure Walkthrough of my PC (Connections) - This won't explode, right?

Hi everyone.

Thanks for all your help when I was trying to pick my parts for my PC. I am nearly done assembling it now, and this is my first build.

I have a walk through of all my connections and my whole PC. It's hard to determine if the connections are right with the pictures, but please take a look. (Note: My HDD isn't yet installed because it's in this computer I'm using. Pci-(e) cards not in yet. Also, still waiting on my 2gigs of OCZ gold ram)

PC Picture Guide

The captions are my thoughts, concerns or observations.
(P.S., Picasa is great for making Picture albums. No slow uploading and embedding!)

Anyway, I just want to be sure nothing will explode, smoke, burn up, spark, fry or any of that.:o::P

If any of the connections were wrong, which ones could actually cause a good amount of damage (besides not having the CPU fan plugged in).

Anyway, take a quick tour and see what you think. I used the guides on this forum and OMEGA's guide. The cords are a mess...

honestly, if it fits and you followed the directions, I don't think you could have really done that much damage. But that isn't a professional opinion. The first time I assembled everything in a computer I just put it all together and fired it up.

For most things, they will only go one way.

ANd for the power button and led's, juts look in your mobo manual, you cant get it wrong

True, true. As for the led's and whatnot, they are never mentioned in my case or mobo manual, which is annoying. There was tiny print which labeled the pin hook-ups though, but I don't know if they are facing the right way (i.e. I might have mixed up + and -).

Grab your power switch one, plug it in a place, and test each position until you find the correct one, wont take long

That sounds pretty foolproof. As long as nothing gets damaged (I don't know why it would).

BTW, I can take my current HDD with Windows XP Home, plug it in and Windows will boot, correct? (after I configure the BIOS of course). I don't need to reinstall XP or anything, right?

Whatever happens, I don't want to lose all my data:eek:

you will probably have to re install windows if you added a new motherboard\other hardware. if its a complete new build than yeah you will, you better start digging for your XP CD.

you dont have to format though, you can reinstall XP on top of your old copy, im not sure if you will be able to keep your Docuements and Settings folder however.

I know theres one connector that you don't want to get the polarities mixed up with, but I cant remember what :X

Bummer. I was hoping I might not have to reinstall anything, but I guess not. I have a 250gb external HDD but I on;y have 20gb left and my internal HDD is 40gb. Not sure how I'll go about backing up all my files. Will a refresh install work?:o

If I were to backup to my external HDD, would I just open drive C and copy all the folders to my other drive?

Gogey: Thanks for increasing my worries a little...:D To bad you don't remember which one, lol. Anyway, anywhere I could look for the info?

Yeah. I know, and it sucks, huh? Anyway, thanks for the reply oscar. (BTW, did you notice a bunch of the parts you recommended in my system?? - thanks!:D) I just deleted tons of games and stuff so I have 60 free gigs on my external.

To backup my drive, I open drive C and copy all the folders to my other drive? Is there a better way?

Didn't mean to double post...See above. ^^
I think I'll try a refresh install first, just to see if it works...
