I have been asking around for a very long time now whats wrong with my comp and what i should upgrade, but got little help. When i try to play world of warcraft i always ping in the high 200's low 400's, and get horrbile fps, around 20. Here are my specs

intel p4 3.4
512 RAM
Radeon x300/x550 series (128) ---- integrated
SBC Yahool DSL connection

my friends have about the same comp as me and same exact connection as i do. But they never ping as high as i do, most people ping in the 60's for world of warcraft. Something has to be wrong, but i dont know what, please help!

Well what is the package of dsl you have ordered? the cheap $14.95 one? I think thats a 384/128 connection.. Your ping could be caused by a few things.... one being the speed of your internet connection, 2 being the type of buidling your in (the older the worst, bad wiring for example). Your fps is most likely do to your integrated video card. I would look into getting something that plugs into a slot... What kind of money are you looking to spend, they can go from $50-$500... Other than that the computer should not have a problem.

are you free from spyware and other nasty stuff? below are the minimum requirements for WOW and looking at your specs you should really be okay.

800mhz cpu
256mb ram
32mb graphics

have you tried playing on lower game settings and updating your graphics drivers, I would think looking at your specs and the minimum requirements that you should be okay, even the recommened specs on the site I got that info from were not anything amazing so I would think the problem is somewhere else.

Your not running any other programs whilst playing online are you? like anything that could eat your bandwith.

If you do check for spyware and viruses often then try doing it in safe mode by pressing f8 from boot and then run a full system scan with 2-3 spyware removers, you can them free from download.com, also do a full virus scan

I have th $24 DSL one. and i know the graphics are integrated but its still a x300, other people say it should be fine, and i doubt that an OK graphics card would give me a 300 ping

EDIT: hmm alright i'll go try to spyware scan. And the only programs i have open are AIM, xfire (program like AIM) and ventrilo, none of which should slow it dont that dramticlly. I'll be back when im done virus scanning =p

scan in safe mode and use 2-3 spyware apps they all pick up on different things, also scan with system restore disabled. This is because some programs get trapped in a system restore and cant be deleted normally. Then when you have finished remember to put system restore back on :)

go to startmenu>controlpanel>system>systemrestore

Just used 2 spyware scans and got nothing >.> I dont know what to do. Is there an online internet connection bandwith test or something so i can see if its actually muc connection. Or i can take pics of EVEREST.

EDIT: Its not just in world of warcraft. I also play counter strike, and the requirements for that are impossible not to meet. My friends comp is much older than mine and he still pings better than me.

also, If you didnt disconnect from the internet and run the scans alot of programs cant be deleted because they are in use so I would recommend if you havent all ready to re-boot and hit f8 and then perform full scans.
