Ping, it's so high in games

I often get lag in BF2 because of my ping being from 100-200. I was told this by one of the ppl on BF2. Can I reduce my ping? It isn't "laggy" when it is close to everyone else's. I dont understand this anyway.

what else are you running on your internet? what speed is your internet? where is the BF2 server that youre connected to compared to you?
 
I live in VA, the server that I play on is half-way across the state. I have a modem with a router built in to it, I have it configured as a switch.
 
You'll just have to find another server that works good for your connection.. I'm wireless and for some funky reason I can get less lag on a Dallas server over a Newark server (I live in NYC).
 
I agree that it just seems like that particular server is not as compatible with your system as it could be... (Try a different one...)
 
the further away from the server you are the higher the ping, although i live in england and play on a canadian server with a ping of around 120,
make sure your antivirus isnt updating every few mins and that no other program is updating, have you tried going on the server at diffrent times of the day to see if there is a diffrence in your ping ,sometimes when people do game servers they allow to many people on and that can cause lag.
