Pioneer 212 SATA probs

Hey,
I've just upgraded my system (details in my sig), and I bought a couple of new Pioneer SATA 212's.
Both work fine separately when I boot up, bios detects them fine. But when it comes to Windows, strange things start happening.
They both seem to burn perfectly fine (using nero), but when it tries to read a dvd, the HDD light comes on and stays on and Windows becomes stuck.
But for some reason I can still use whatever prog i've got open
I'm guessing its got something to do with the SATA controller? It's in IDE mode atm.

Appreciate any incites,

Derryn

perhaps .. it's using regular MS IDE controllers to work it, i can't see anythin on Gigabytes' site except AHCI or RAID drivers. Would ahci be worth a try?

Which program are you using to read a DVD when it freezes up? Have you tried others? I just realized it could potentially be a software issue.

it basically happens whenever I try to read a DVD using any software i.e PowerDVD, Windows' Auto-run thing (havn't tried a CD now that I think about it -will do in a sec)

Looks like it does the same thing with cds too. After tinkering with the bios a bit i remembered that i couldnt install windows without hpet on (high precision event timer). Does this maybe hav somethin to do with it? What is hpet anyway?
