ok so as i await my new case to put all my new stuff in i wanted to turn my dell on. The day before i tried to take out the motherboard but then gave up. Now my dell wont start, the power light just flashes orange for about 10 seconds then shuts off. the motherboard is fine, there is a green light on it. Any help people?:(

a few more details needed

Just what did you do in trying to remove the mother board? Did you unplug any cables? Remove any hardware cards?

dell motherboards might not go into normal cases btw..and their powersupplies too. Like flanker said, how did you go about trying to remove the motherboard? Just because the greenlights on, doesn't mean the motherboard is 100 percent working.

It takes some patience, but whenever I put a system together I'd just start with the motherboard, CPU, RAM, Video Card and Primary HDD. Then make sure it boots up - start connecting other bits like optical drives, hard disks, sound cards, printers scanners etc one by one. Otherwise it's nigh on impossible to work out what is causing the machine to fail to boot.
