I have just bought a new gaming pc. I need to connect to the internet to activate windows and also I would like to so that I can play games online. However, there are two other computers in my house using the same broadband internet connection which I believe are infected with viruses and I also believe that somehow they have logged the IP address of these computers as I reformatted one and it is still very slow (admittedly the hardware itself could be damaged through years of abuse). Is it very risky for me to connect my new computer to the internet? I really do not want to risk infecting it ( I won't be using it to go on webpages, just for games).

Thanks

Is there anyway I can get my ISP to reset my IP address?

You could but it wouldn't do anything.

The only way of making sure your computer doesn't get infected is either never connecting it to the internet with those computers, disinfecting those computers or disconnecting the other computers and connecting yours.

Damn so as long as I am sharing an internet connection with those computers then even if I changed my ISP and everything then my computer would still most likely get infected? Correct?

I'll take your advice to disinfect those computers with those programs and then post the results here, but will that definately remove any risk of infection for my new pc?

I don't have time just now but I'll do it soon.

Thanks
