For what you are doing I really believe the i7 2600k would be a better option.

I would get this RAM to save a bit of money. It is slightly slower but still very fast. That motherboard probably wouldn't give you that RAM speed anyway without overclocking.

And here's an HD6870 that's $155 after MIR. I've used sapphire graphics cards myself and have had no issues.

Doing an i7 along with compatible motherboard is definitely going to push your budget which is why I'm showing some cheaper options. And by the way you don't have a power supply on there.

Here is a mobo and the 2600k

about 415 after savings.

Thanks for the links to the different options and extra savings! If I were to spend that much for the processor, would it be wiser to wait for AMD's Bulldozer processor? I was hesitant on going getting the i7 because of the price differece.

Well, at that point you are gambling. There is a world of difference in performance between the 1100T and the 2600K. the latter is definitely better for what you are doing by a long shot. Whether Bulldozer will match the Sandy Bridge processors or not is yet to be seen.

If you are worried about waiting for something new to come out, from what I'm reading, Ivy Bridge (Intel's next line of processors) will be LGA 1155, Which means you'll have an upgrade path for your computer just as if you went with the 1100T.

EDIT: and here's a PSU that'll save you $35

Well I'm not worried about future products that are coming out, I just want to make sure if I were to spend over $300 for the processor then I'd rather get my dollar's worth. Good argument about not knowing exactly how Bulldozer will perform. The i7 is proven and I am piecing together a new list on newegg to compare and contrast.

Someone that read my setup said "the hard drive you have is for storage, not for OS to be installed on. You can use it but it'll be slow." Is this true? If so, what kind of hard drive do I need?

any 7200 RPM drive will run OS fine. Western Digital black or F3 will be the best.

Yep. I mean I will say, 2tb may be a bit excessive, unless you need the space. I would get a small HDD (like 320 or 500) For your OS and programs and a separate 1tb or 2tb for your files. That keeps your pc more organized.

Dont know why would want to spend 200 bucks on a 1100, when Zambezi will probably come out in a month. Plus you got a older chipset/socket board.

Why not save 90 bucks and get a 955 and with the extra bucks get a better AM3+ socket 900 series chipset board?

The antec 300 flat out sucks on cable management.

And like said above, go with a Samgung F3/4 or Western Digital Black.

Thanks for the advice. I'm reviewing the mobo and case right now. What case would you recommend? The antec 300 had pretty solid reviews. I'm going to look up some benchmarks on the 955 vs 1100T. As far as Bulldozer goes, it's going to be at least an extra $100 bucks and I know I will not be utilizing it to its full potential.

the bulldozer quad starts at 190 is the surrent beliefe, as for the case, the rosewill destroyer is better i believe, i think the 300 has cable management issues, which is where there are holes beside the mobo to stick the power cables threw to get better airflow and it looks nicer, not essintial but it is a good thing to have, the cooler master haf series is nice and has a case near that price, idk what else but there are a lot of nice cases. and for the 955 v the 1100t, they both will perform nearly identically in everything other than the 1 game i know of (that flight sim. x or something along those lines) that can take advantage of more than 4 cores like the 955, but really the majority of games only need 2 cores, a gfx card is more important than the cpu by a good bit.
