Okay I have recently got into building computers and im starting my first project soon. Posting threads on forums including this one i have found outthat alot of what seems to be top of the line is really $h!t:confused: . I would appreiciate it if ya'll could tell me what is good and what is just a waste of time and money. Agian please dont flame im new to the pc world. thanks!

what people say is shit may not really be, as a computer user, you have to gain experience by trial and error, we all were at your stage at one time or annother lol, what i can say is, usually you get what you pay for

well i can see that what you say is good, may not be by juding from your comp in your sig :P

If you post a few types of parts, i can tell you how good it is, and how new it is.

Thats a really nice single core CPU, but most people are going the Dual-core route now.

That video card is also really good, it will play games maxed out.

1GB-2GB is ideal for gaming, and less and you will experience lag, and there really isnt any need for more than 2GB.

If you have alot of games or alot of media, i would recommend 120GB or higher. And try to go for a SATA drive, since they are faster.

As long as the refresh rate is at or above 60-65Hz, you should be fine.

My cousins step brother builds comps and he said having more than a gig of ram will truly slow you down
Not it wont. The best thing to do is have 2x 1GB Sticks. This way you can have dual channel, which improves performance.

There is a 100 dollar diff in the 3700 and the x2 4200 is it worth it?
Deffinetly.

lol, not everyday do people in my neighbor hood throw out p4s or athlon 64 x2s, like i said "this is good considering i get most of my stuff free" it took me a year to find this p3

Can you try to explaine (simply) What the differance in single and dual core is?
Basically, a dual-core cpu is like having two processors in one, which makes multi-tasking much faster, and also takes advantage of multi-threaded apps.

Most games in the future, as well as some now, are multi-threaded.

I'm having a lot of problems with my games since updating to a amd athlon 64 x2 processor, of course the problems such as disappearing weapons, grenades in call of duty 1 and nasty sound glitches in serious sam 2 all stem from the dual core processor and iv heard that a solution is to make it run in 1 core mode....but how do i do that?

I just Found this what do you think about this omega???

Ya i heard about that, but this was the first time i heard of that problem. It's most likely just an isolated incident, everyone always has some sort of glitch with their system.

He did find a way to fix it though.

Personally i would go with the 3800+, dual-cores generally dont OC as high as single cores, but they can get pretty high. I've never had any personal experience with them, so i cant say for sure.

depends... for gaming the 3700 might have the edge, but overall the x2 4200 is much better... plus dual-core will be better in gaming in the future... just as of now the 3700 will have an edge on gaming

Lets say there is a single core processor at 2.6GHz, then there is a dual-core at 2.2GHz

the single core is 2.6GHz but the dual-core is baisically 2 2.2GHz processors in one...
someone correct me if i am wrong
