Okay. Lets say that you purchase a new motherboard and a new CPU. It turns out the the bios in the motherboard needs to be updated before it will support your new CPU.
What will happen if you fire it up with the unsupported CPU in there? If it won't POST, how will you ever update the Bios to support it?
Thanks.

it should start up at least, i had my phenom ii in a phenom 1 board and it worked fine, even overclocked, BUT--windows score, in vista, couldnt rank it, it would say unknown cpu, and programs like coretemp would give me crazy numbers, like 15ghz. thats how it happened to me, your results may vary.

Most of the time it will fire up but call it a unknown processor or just something weird. But there are sometimes it will just be dead in the water.

I've never bought a configuration that would require this yet, but I believe it would POST and let you into the BIOS, but you wouldn't be able to install Windows.
