Please explain:Why no DX10 support for Xp

Can someone please explain to me while Direct X 10 does not work in Xp?

what is diffrent in Vista? and why hasnt someone just made a working patch to fix this?

i know DX10 can be installed in Xp and shows up as DX10 in Dxiag but i heard that realy DX10 just doesnt work in Xp.

i would like to go back to XP but there would be no point in having a DX10 GFX card and not been able to use all its features in Xp

basicly all im staying with Vista for is DX10 because it does look much better as i compared it to Xp.

DirectX 10 is one of Vista's prime selling points. It's one of the marketing methods Microsoft used to sell the OS. If they incorporated DX10 into XP, they wouldn't sell as many Vista units.

Why? Simply to give all gamers still sticking to XP a reason to migrate to Vista. There. It's nothing but a marketing strategy, if Microsoft wanted I'm sure they could make DX10 work on XP but apparently they're currently doing everything they can to make people put their money in Vista.

From what I understand, it's a pretty complex API that would require decompiling and what not. I'm guessing it would be difficult to create a stable, working version of DX10 in XP. Don't quote me on that, though; I'm far from a software engineer.

OK- so I just found a site that claims DX10 can be run in XP but I still think it's not legal!!

Yeah, anyone that installed it would obviously be violating the EULA.

It's not true DX10. It's a crude hack that enables very high setting on games, such as Crysis. You're still not seeing DX10 graphics.

because the underlying graphics libary in xp is different

in vista the DWM (desktop window manager) draws the desktop, instead of the kernel itself, like in xp. In XP all drawing of windows was done using GDI on the CPU whereas in vista its all done using directx on the GPU. There are also lots of other significant changes to the way graphics are handled, which make porting Direct3D 10.0 to XP very difficult. Also the other directX technologies (directsound, directinput etc...) are also difficult to backport, because those areas have also been revamped.

Thats an unnoficial and illegal hack. It wont work, it may give you some functions, but i doubt it will work fully as intended.

I didn't mean YOU in person I meant in general and as for the fact you been here longer does NOT make any difference. Also just for your info I was here a LONG time ago under a different user name before I left for two years because of all the crap that started getting posted, looks like it's going the same way again doesn't it?
