Hi there i just got a motherboard from a friend its a pentium 4 2.6 ghz with an asus motherboard.. Now iam not sure if its the problem. But when i hook my 250watt power supply to it it shows a light on the motherboard, But when i power it up the fans spin for about 1 sec then turn off.. and the hddled light comes on for 1 sec then turns on.. If you keep pressing power button simultaeously it will turn the fans until you dont press it anymore then its off.. Is it my Powersupply.. May this motherboard need a 300watt or i dont know anyone help me please!!!!

kind of low it my be the problem what else is running the system.
Also when you installed the motherboard did you put spacers in between the motherboard and the case?
It defiantly sounds like a power issue or the motherboard maybe shot.
 
wouldn't this require at least a quality 400w PSU?

not likely, my 400watt PSU has 29A on 12V which is more than enough.

Randy, check the amperage on your 12V PSU rail. there should be a sticker one the side of the PSU that shows the Voltage and Amps.
