Normally when I press the main switch the computer will have a “beep” sound and then the boot up screen will show on the monitor. But recently when I pressed the main switch my computer has no response.

I am sure there is electricity on my computer because the fan is running and I am able to open my CD-Rom.

I have changed another power supply (230v) and video card but it still doesn’t work. In order to test the hard disk, I put it on my friend’s computer and it works fine.

Indeed, my computer was like this in the past few weeks, but I was still able to switch it on after 5 to 6 attempts. However, I can not switch it on anymore no matter how many times I tried now… :(

I think the problem is the motherboard but I am not so sure. Could anyone please give me some advice…many thanks!!

My PC Requirement

CPU: Pentium 3
RAM: 64 RAM
Power Supply: 230v
HDD: 8GB
OS: Windows XP

It does sound like your mobo has gone......... But maybe it would be better for you if it has gone that you get a new comp and upgrade from a p3?

Try pulling the motherboard battery for a few minutes. This will rest the bios to a failsafe startup. If that does not work the MB is probably shot. Good luck!

I won't run XP with less than 256 mb...

Yes, it can work with 128 (don't believe 64 would do),
but the RAM will be asking on his knees for a permit to
the hard drive and virtual memory to do anything...
