Please help. Are BT being sneaky with my connection speed?

Hi everyone. I have suffered from terrible connection speeds for a long time. Streaming 360pp youtube videos is only possible during weekdays (not evenings). So yeh, pretty terrible. I use the internet quite alot but I dont download much so I can deal with it. But anyway, I got a call from BT looking to sell me "truly unlimited" broadband. The saleswoman was nice and she made it sound like a pretty good deal so I rang up Sky, got my MAC code and did the switch. Fast forward a week or so and I get my shiny new hub, plug it in and all of a sudden I'm able to stream 720pp fine with no buffering, i couldnt believe it, I felt like the king of Denmark. So anyway fast forward another week (conveniently enough the same amount of time youre aloud to cancel your new broadband but I dunno if this has anything to do with it) and all of a sudden my internet's as slow as it ever was and its as if I never even made the switch. Like I say Im used to slow internet but this really has annoyed me. If anyone could offer any possible explanation to whats happening I'd realy appreciate it. I know my connection is capable of faster because I had a week of great speeds but then its like Im back to square one all of a sudden. I really dont understand whats going on.

I'm assuming you're in the UK since you're on BT - where abouts are you??

Some areas are just slower than others no matter who your ISP is.

I'd give them a ring and see what they say.

BT is well known for throttling which basically means they intentionally turn your speed down, I would say the best broadband provider at moment is sky.

You do not need to get sky tv in order to get there broadband.

Yeh sorry I meant to say I live in Rural Bedfordshire in the UK and I'm quite far from the exchange so I know that slows my connection down to an extent. But I dont understand how my connection can be so good for a week and then just turn to crap again. I think I will give them a ring tomorrow but if past experience is anything to go by Im fairly certain I'll just be talking to a script that gets nothing solved. Thats why I came here first.

Thanks James. I thought there might be something underhanded going on here. So much for "truly unlimited" huh?

Just to point out, like many, my ISP throttles me too so I'd check with your provider to see if they have a better plan (I can't wait for 4G).
